About Home Testing:
What are the advantages of home screening and testing?
• Complete and total privacy.
• Convenience.
• Instant results, e.g. you’re the first to know you’re pregnant
• Quick access with no appointments.
• Inexpensive and simple to use.
• Allows individuals to monitor a disease that has already been detected, e.g. monitoring glucose levels in diabetic patients.
• When caught in the early stages, potentially serious illnesses are much easier to treat and manage.
• An early diagnosis may detect a disorder at an easily treatable stage. All our selected home tests can be carried out in the privacy of your home. They are designed to spot problems before the signs or symptoms appear.
How do you use a home test?
• We have made every effort to make our website easy to navigate, understand and buy from, by explaining what each of our products does in plain, 'jargon free' English.
• Clear and Simple instructions will also be included with the product when delivered to you.
• A sample of Urine, Saliva or a pin prick of blood is all that is required to take a test.
Are home tests a new form of diagnosis?
• No, In Vitro Diagnostics have been around for a long time, such as pregnancy tests kits which are now widely used and trusted as a first point of diagnosis.
Why are their more home tests available nowadays?
• There are 137 different tests for diseases and infections! SafeScreen.co.uk has put together the most easily used tests for personal home use and we hope to bring you a wider range of tests as they become approved.
• As we are now more aware of health issues, screening for disease and or infection is becoming more and more popular.
• By signing up to our newsletter we will keep you informed of any new tests available. Test kits we are currently working on include certain cancer tests, such as for pulmonary carcinoma (Lung Cancer).
Are there any limitations of a home test kit?
• Yes, please read the instructions carefully. Instructions with the test kits must be followed closely. Important factors can include cleanliness (e.g. sugar on hands can affect a diabetes test), what time of day you perform the test, how long the sample has to stay in contact with the diagnostic test, and a clear understanding of the test results
• When using any of our home health tests please read the enclosed leaflets in detail before carrying out the home health test and note any special instructions, as any small mistake can alter the result of the home health test.
Can home test kits take the place of my GP?
• No! Home testing is just one more way we can help ourselves in the management of our healthcare. But a positive home test must be followed up with a visit to your GP. Such as you would with a pregnancy test. Even with a negative result, physical symptoms must always take priority over a test result (if you are feeling unwell and exhibiting symptoms make an appointment with your GP.)
• If you or your family have any symptoms that worry you but the test is negative, you should still visit your Doctor. Positive results are not common and even then may not be a symptom of anything serious.
Where can I get more information on the test and the meaning of a positive result?
• Your GP should be your next port of call. In addition, the Support Links section of this web site gives direct access to a wide variety of specialist organisations and support groups, offering medical expertise and guidance.
• Some people may be embarrassed to disclose their test results, but a positive test must be followed up with your GP
