The prospect of going to your doctor to ask for an STD test is extremely embarrassing to most people. SafeScreen’s home testing kits can provide a more convenient and easier option. A gonorrhoea home test is totally painless and works on a small sample collected by a cotton swab.
Like chlamydia, untreated gonorrhoeal infections are a major cause of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancies and infertility. Around half of women and one in ten men show no symptoms of a gonorrhoea infection, which means it, can often go untreated for some time.
Self testing for gonorrhea and other STD offers you a discrete, affordable way to see if you need treatment for this disease or not.
Gonorrhoea testing?
Sexually transmitted diseases are always associated with stigma, but they are a fact of life and a risk for all sexually active people. No matter how embarrassing, no STD should be left untreated. If you show signs and symptoms of gonorrhea or believe that your partner’s behaviour suggest that you may be infected, a gonorrhoea test offers you a discrete and reliable solution. SafeScreen tests are fast, reliable and accurate; indeed, they are exactly the same tests as those used in laboratories around the world. If you test negative, you can rest assured that you are not infected with Gonorrhoea; if, unfortunately, your test comes back positive then it should be followed up with a doctor’s visit.
What are the symptoms of Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea symptoms in men
The symptoms of a gonorrhoea infection can take as long as 30 days to appear although sometimes no symptoms will appear. The following symptoms are associated with a gonorrhoea infection in men:
• The primary symptom is painful urination
• A discharge from the penis
• Pain or tenderness in the lower abdominal area
• Irritation and/or discharge from the anus
• Sometimes men with gonorrhoea get painful or swollen testicles
• Gonorrhoea is can be spread by sexual contact between homosexual men. They can develop gonorrhoea in the rectum and this varies from being symptom-free to involving the painful discharge of bloody pus from the rectum
• In both sexes, a throat infection, sometimes accompanied by fever, can occur as a result of oral sex with an infected partner
Symptoms of Gonorrhea in women
In women, the symptoms of Gonorrhoea are often mild, but most women who are infected have no symptoms. Even when a woman has symptoms, they can be mistaken for a bladder or vaginal infection. In women, a possible long-term consequence of not being treated for gonorrhea is closure of the Fallopian tubes. If this happens, the passage of the fertilised egg into the womb is made difficult and the risk of sterility and ectopic pregnancy increases.
Symptoms Gonorrhoea in women are:
• A pain or burning sensation when urinating
• A strong green or yellow discharge from the vagina, which has an unpleasant smell
• In both sexes, a throat infection, sometimes accompanied by fever, can occur as a result of oral sex with an infected partner.
How do you catch Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhoea is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and sharing vibrators or other sex toys. However, mothers infected with gonorrhoea can also transfer the disease to their children during delivery. The body fluids containing Gonorrhoea include:
• Blood and menstrual blood
• Semen and possibly pre-seminal fluid
• Vaginal secretions
What is Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea used to be known as “the clap”. It is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a bacterium called neisseria gonorrheoae or gonococcus. The bacteria thrive in warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in both women and men. The bacteria can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes, and anus.
Gonorrhea testing?
As with all SafeScreen’s home test kits, everything you need to carry out and interpret a test is included with your order. A gonorrhea test can be performed discretely, in the privacy of your home by following the easy step by step instructions. Results are available in minutes rather than the days or weeks normally required to obtain laboratory results.
To carry out a gonnorrohea test a drop of blood from a skin prick will be placed in the test kit cassette. If the test reveals that you do have Gonorrhoea, you must make an appointment with your doctor to confirm the results and receive treatment. If your results are confirmed you will be treated by either penicillin or antibiotics.
If you have been diagnosed and treated for gonorrhoea, you should notify all recent sex partners so they can see a health care provider and be treated. This will reduce the risk that they will develop serious complications from gonorrhoea. You should abstain from sex until your treatment for gonorrhoea has been completed.
Delivery
All orders for SafeScreen home tests received before 4.15pm are dispatched the same day. Your test kit are delivered discretely in plain, unbranded packaging with no indication of the contents to ensure your complete privacy.
Treatment for gonorrhoea
Several antibiotics can successfully cure gonorrhoea. However, drug-resistant strains of the bacteria causing gonorrhea are increasing in many areas of the world rendering treatment more difficult. It is important for all sexual partners of an infected individual to be tested. Sexual intercourse and intimate contact should be avoided until it has been confirmed that the infection has cleared.
Prevention
As with most STDs, the best way to avoid catching Gonorrhea is to practice safe sex.
